Headbands of Hope

In May of 2011, my dear friend, Sara Swenson, lost her fight with cancer. Watching her battle the terrible disease, I gained a whole new level of empathy for cancer patients. While I rejoice that she is in heaven with her Savior, my heart goes out to others who are fighting the same fight. In January of 2012, The Lord gave me this incredible ministry opportunity of creating headbands for cancer patients. Andrea Potloff, another close friend mine and Sara's, has joined me in this effort and we plan to send a box of headbands to a hospital every month. We feel so blessed to be able to offer a glimmer of hope to those who so desperately need it. By purchasing a headband, you cover the cost for a cancer patient's headband as well. If you are interested in purchasing one, send me an email with your order at amythompson2324@yahoo.com.

Children's Cancer Center: Tampa, Florida

The last couple of weeks have been such a blessing in regard to this ministry. I recently received a thank you email from the Children's Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida for the latest box of headbands. In the email, they included three pictures of recipients. What a blessing to see the beautiful faces of these girls! If you go to their facebook page, you can see the pictures they posted at http://www.facebook.com/DailyCCC?fref=ts

I also received a picture from DeeDee in Nevada who sells the headbands with the help of her granddaughters. This is a picture of a picture, so forgive the poor quality. But I love the variety of headbands displayed on these girls!

I'm currently working on another box of headbands for DeeDee as well as one to send to the next hospital. I'm excited to see the way the Lord will continue to lead this ministry in the future and I'm always grateful for all those who have extravagantly supported it. As always, if someone knows of an individual or center who could benefit from a gift of headbands, please contact me!

Kinders Jump on Board

Believe it or not, blogging isn't really my thing ;)

Regardless, the ministry continues, and I am so thankful. Unfortunately, I haven't had as much time in the last few months to maintain the same level of productivity I had going, but hopefully that will change soon.

A few months ago, a friend connected me to a darling girl named Kate McRae who has battled cancer for the last few years at an incredibly young age. Her mom beautifully updates their caringbridge site, http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/mcraekate,
which evokes tears with every single read. I can't imagine the heartache this family has been through. Yet to see the faith they have in God as they plead for their daughter's life is astounding.
I was excited to send that sweet girl an assortment of headbands to wear and share.

Next month, my kindergarten class will contribute items to send a care package to the children at St. Jude's Research Hospital. They are all very excited to bless these kids in need.
To hear my students' prayers for these children would melt the hardest of hearts.
I'll also contribute another set of headbands to St. Jude's in December!

As I mentioned earlier, I anxiously await the near future when I will have more time to contribute to this ministry. In the mean time, thank you so much to all who have continued to contribute, even in my busyness! DeeDee Furguson in Fallon, Nevada, has started selling the headbands in her store, Cobblestone Corner. Sara and her sisters worked in this store while in high school. What a blessing to have DeeDee sell the headbands there! A big thanks to Kathleen Rauch and Shauna Nelson at CoCoMay Salon who have volunteered to sell the headbands and clips. I've also received an abundance of fabric donations from Kathleen, Cindy Lenker and Jean Hyden - THANK YOU!

I'm praying big prayers for this ministry as I would love to see it continually grow as we all watch Sara's lasting light continue to touch lives.

Here's a glimpse at the latest "holiday collection" I sent to Cobblestone Corner.
